THE NFC CLUB SHOW REPORTS.
It was a very great pleasure to be here again at this happy & friendly show amidst all these beautiful Norwegian Forest cats – what a challenge it was to place them. My steward was Linda Dutton who worked like a Trojan – she wanted to get to know the breed & it was total immersion! My thanks go to Linda for her sterling support, to the hard working team in the kitchen for providing us with a delicious lunch & to Anne, Brian & the committee for the invitation to judge – it was a great privilege.
OPEN CLASSES.
AC CHAMPION MALE.
GCC. GRANT’S CH.NOYNAROCK ZACH 67 31a M – 21.6.07. A real stunner of a cat, showing great balance & elegance. Head a strong, deep triangle with good breadth at the top & depth at the muzzle, beautiful large ears which extend the head lines & carry long curling furnishings, eyes large, well opened & obliquely set with an alert expression, long nose with straight profile, level bite & firm strong chin. Body long & muscular with deep chest & broad shoulders, limbs long & thick, taller to the rear, with very stong bone & huge tufted feet, long bushy tail. Lovely coat with superb textural contrast showing a very strong waterproof top coat over a dense woolly undercoat, shirtfront & shaggy knickerbockers. Physically, he ticked all the boxes & the icing on the cake was his wonderful temperament – outgoing, alert & so friendly & purring. He later took Overall Best in Show – for me, he was a template for the breed.
RES.GCC. TIPPER’S CH.TIGANLEA PRINCE DANTE (FIFE GIC) 67 31at M – 9.12.04.A very handsome & stylish chap in his prime & showing himself beautifully, unlucky to meet Zach in this class. Triangular head showing excellent definition in the frame of his enormous mane with large ears, tufted & furnished, extending the head lines. Lovely large green eyes, well opened & set obliquely, good long straight profile, bite level & chin strong. Body long, strong & elegant, legs long with strong bone, paws large & tufted between the toes & long bushy tail. He had an enormous full coat, lavish shirtfront, mane breaking over the shoulders & very bushy knickerbockers. However, although the undercoat was very deep & woolly, I thought the texture of the top coat was softer & finer than required for the breed. Super temperament.
AC CHAMPION FEMALE.
GCC.HERMON’S CH.ADFURLO AISLING 67 31t F – 6.4.04.A real stunner, beautifully presented with not a hair out of place. Very strongly defined triangular head extended by large ears bearing tiny tufts & long curling furnishings. Her eyes were spectacular, of a perfect shape, large & bright emerald in colour, well opened & obliquely set, nose long with straight profile, bite level & chin deep. Very strongly grown with good length of muscular torso, standing high on long thick limbs showing very strong bone & feet large & tufted. Very bushy tail only just to balance. Superb coat showing lovely long glossy guard hair on top & deep woolly undercoat.
RES.GCC.TIPPER’S CH.KVASIR VANADIS 67 16 F – 9.5.06. Beautiful girl, a bit of a madam but of excellent type & substance. Super large ears with very long furnishings extended the strong deep triangular skull. Eyes well opened with oblique aperture, beautiful long straight profile, level bite & firm chin. Strong long torso, long well boned limbs with large tufted paws & long bushy tail. Wonderful full coat showing excellent textural contrast, profuse shirtfront, mane & knickerbockers. Balanced & stylish, she was much happier in her pen where she showed herself to perfection.
AC JUNIOR TABBY NEUTER.
1 ST, PC & BOB.SZWED’S FENRISULVEN INDIANA 67 20 MN – 26.10.07. What a big softy! Very strong triangular head extended by large, well furnished ears, eyes beautifully shaped & well opened, set obliquely, strongly defined long straight profile, level bite & good firm chin. Limbs very well boned ending in large tufted paws, body of good length & substance, bushy tail a little on the short side. Coat of medium length showing a lovely firm textured shining top coat & woolly undercoat, not much in the way of shirtfront as yet but with shaggy knickerbockers. Inevitably still looking a little adolescent at 15 months but he’s got it all.
2 ND.BATE’S FENRISULVEN KENZO 67 18 MN – 21.4.08.Not much more than a kitten & very frightened & overwhelmed by the experience though potentially very nice. Strong head triangle, ears large with excellent furnishings but flattened, eyes very wide & bold looking today but I could see that they were of good shape & set. Super strong straight profile, level bite & good chin. Body long & lean, legs show good strong bone & feet are large & well tufted, bushy tail could be longer. Coat not fully developed but shows promise.
AC SENIOR TABBY NEUTER.
1 ST& PC.HEALING’S CH. JHARDUFAE BEANO BEN (TICA CH.) 67 18 MN – 9.8.03. A very large mature chap with a lovely affectionate temperament. Strong long triangular skull with beautifully defined long nose with ruler straight profile. Ears extend the triangle but appear rather small, even given that they are buried in quantities of coat, eyes obliquely set, bite level, muzzle a little fine & chin needs a bit more depth. Body long & strong, legs well boned & feet large & tufted, lovely long bushy tail. Enormous coat consisting in the main of huge dense woolly undercoat but showing some stronger top over the shoulders & along the spine, huge mane, shirtfront & knickerbockers. He has the sweetest gentle expression.
PREFIX PAIRS.
This was the biggest challenge of the day – I have to admit to feeling rather daunted when I saw the entry! The quality was so high that I was literally splitting hairs to get to the final three placings. There were many beautiful examples of the breed but I was looking for a distinctive “house style” which defined the standard while retaining it’s individualty.
1 ST.RAFFKIN – BREEDER MRS K. RUBERY – TUCKER’S RAFFKIN WILLOW WAND 67 31et & RUBERY’S RAFFKIN PHOENIX FLAME 67 31dt
These two stunning sisters were superb & of lovely type & temperament. Both showed excellent substance & development while retaining their femininity. Lovely open triangular heads showing good depth at the base of the triangle. Very large ears set high & open, wide at base & generously furnished, extending the head lines, & beautiful large & well opened eyes of that very distinctive NFC shape, set obliquely. Lovely long straight profiles with defined lateral definition. Good body length & strong bone to lovely long chunky limbs. In spite of their young age, I thought they showed style & distinction.
2 ND.NOYNAROCK – BREEDER MRS L. GRANT – PORTER’S NOYNAROCK RAGNASVLARDATTER 67 22 & PORTER’S NOYNAROCK SYLVESTER 67 31a. Two excellent examples of their breed showing impressive size & bone yet retaining elegance & having a definite family resemblance. They had wonderful balance with lovely long bushy tails, strongly defined triangular heads showing breadth at the top & depth to the chins, ears large & really extending the headlines & both had handsome long noses with perfectly straight profiles. Coats showed superb textural contrast & they both had wonderful temperaments & showed themselves off to perfection.
3 RD.FORESTSHADOW - BREEDER MR.D.HANDY – MANSELL’S FORESTSHADOW CAJSA 67 18a & MANSELL’S FORESTSHADOW CHLOE 67 31ats. At only ten months old, I thought these sisters showed excellent growth & substance, strong family resemblance & had great flair & promise. Their coats were particularly well developed with lovely long strong waterproof top coats & deep soft woolly undercoats. Heads were strongly triangular with deep chins & ears were very large, set high & wide at the base, extending the contours up & out. Lovely long muscular bodies & very long bushy tails. Long profiles, Cajsa’s perfectly straight & Chloe’s very slightly convex. Chloe, (a total sweetie) needs to teach Casja, (a bit of a diva) some manners!
