THE NFC CLUB SHOW REPORTS

CAROL WALKER

NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT CLUB SHOW 21.02.09

Many thanks to Anne & Brian for inviting me to judge at this lovely show. I had not judged for several years so really had to dust off my white coat – and memory! – but I thoroughly enjoyed my day and actually am now quite considering donning the white coat a bit more often – as and when invited. The food was superb and the apple pie was to die for. Many thanks to my steward, Carole Kemp, who handled the cats with great love and care and provided me with good company – we must do it again sometime!. The cats were all in superb condition and obviously well loved, even if, sadly, a few of them were not too enamoured with their surroundings or, especially, with their neighbours today!

Open Class 111 Black, White or Black & White Adult

1. MC pidgley's samson. A lovely young man of just 9 months old, only just an adult, in superb condition, with a healthy, shiny, glossy jet black coat. Excellent body weight and stature, lovely, expressive yellow eyes and cute ear tufts. Alert and interested in everything that was going on, he sat at the front of his pen all day watching the proceedings. Sadly he was very upset with his neighbour and proceeded to hiss, spit and swear at her once he was out of the pen, although he was still easy to handle and showed us no malice at all.

2 VALE'S ELLIE KIM. A very pretty all white girl, spotless and well groomed but sadly very nervous and retreated to the back of her pen when she wasn't trying to hide under her litter tray. She allowed us to stroke her head within the confines of her pen for a short while but when we tried to get her out she told us in no uncertain terms where to go! She had the same opinion of her neighbour as he did of her and was quite put out by his bad language which she returned tenfold!

Open Class 115 AOC Adult

•  MC ISAAC'c' CHLOE. Only one in the Class and at first appeared to be extremely frightened and we had to extricate her from under her blanket in order to see how pretty she was. Once out on the trolley she relaxed enough to allow us to examine her but soon wanted to be back in the safety of her pen. A, tortie tabby, with some red areas mingled amongst the tabby stripes and a lovely white chin. Soft, well groomed coat, another cat in excellent condition.

Misc. Class 121 Cat or Kitten Under 2 Years old

1 JARECKI'S SPOOK. A real baby! A stunning black boy who, we all agreed, was really more of a black smoke with some gorgeous silvery under bits. Just 16 weeks old and almost small enough to fit in our pockets – I had to check my steward's very carefully before she went home! Cuteness personified, he was a cheeky and inquisitive chappie who was very wriggly, but this was more from a desire not to miss a thing rather than being ill at ease. Very easy to handle, superb condition, very soft, silky coat, an absolute poppet. He is going to be a stunner when he grows up! Presumably this was his first show – hopefully it will not be his last.

2 READ'S PEACHES. A pretty tortie smoke girl with a semi-longhair coat, ear tufts and a lovely fluffy tail. Again in excellent condition and although she seemed to prefer the comfort (???) of her litter tray she handled nicely when we did get her out of it. Very distinctive front feet, one being almost black and the other a very pale apricot. Just not quite the confidence of the winner.

3 TALBOYS' ORLANDO . Handsome red spotty tabby youngster, not long out of kittenhood who was very relaxed and posing in his pen and equally as relaxed out on the trolley. Strongly ringed tail and a pale chin added to his appeal. Another well cared for lad in excellent condition.

Not placed in this class and not reported on elsewhere

SZWED'S LULU BELLE. a stunningly beautiful large dominant tortie & white semi-longhair girl. A lot of white on her face together with a black splodge on her nose and more on three of her feet gave this girl real appeal. Excellent condition and well groomed but just not quite as relaxed as the winners.

OVERTON'S KOVUU. Obviously a Somali in another life, this lad was very, very vocal and was not at all reticent about telling everyone what he thought of them, the show, the state of the economy etc! . A very alert cat with a soft, silky, well cared for coat and a striking black band down his back. Very handsome boy who was fine out on the trolley at first then caught sight of his neighbour and gave vent to some most ungentlemanly language.

Misc. Class 125 LH Cat or Kitten With the Fluffiest Coat.

1 JARECKI's REMUS A difficult class this as neither cat had what I would call a really fluffy coat but although this lad's coat was shorter than his rival's, it was thicker, which just pinched it for him. An obvious part/rescued pedigree, described as White, Seal & Grey, (perhaps Birman we mused, or Ragdoll as he was the “stable-mate” of the other cat in the class), he had lovely tabby markings on his face. An alert and curious lad who almost walked out onto the trolley for us then had second thoughts and retreated back into his pen.

2 JARECKI'S APPOLLO . A softer and silkier coat than the winner, consequently it lay a little flatter against the body, hence the second placing. We debated as to this lad's origins as well, thought perhaps Ragdoll. Sadly had to judge him in his pen as he was very tense and was most reluctant to leave it.

Misc. Class 129 Handsomest Male Cat or Kitten

•  PlANT'S SILVER SAM. Simply stunning and very handsome! An obvious Chinchilla in A1 condition and with faultless preparation who smelt just divine. Handled really well with a laid back yet confident personality. Lovely boy, another chatterbox, this time, though, telling everyone all about how much he was enjoying himself, how gorgeous he was and how well he was doing! Excellent, friendly temperament, he butted my hand with his head, purred for England and then finished off by rolling over for tummy tickles. He was obviously enjoying every minute of his day out, was awarded three out of the four judges' “Judge's choice rosettes and was my eventual Best in Show, which was a very close decision between him and the gorgeous short haired tortie referred to later. Excellent condition for his 8 years, I later learned that he had been abandoned in a cardboard box, extremely matted and in poor condition. Many congratulations to his owner, who has turned what must have been a sorry looking cat, into the stunner we saw today. You can be justifiably proud of him and yourself!

2 pidgley's samson. My winner of Open Class 111.

3 JARECKI's REMUS . My winner from Class 125.

Misc. Class 133 The Cat or Kitten With the Loudest Purr

1 VALE'S DAISY MAY . Only cat entered but a worthy winner, even though her purr was not extremely loud it was very, very “feelable”, her throat just vibrated with purrs! An extremely pretty tortie & white with four pristine white feet and an almost entirely black tail. Lovely darker red stripes on her paler red face. We initially christened her the “Blanket cat” as she was hiding under her blanket at first but having lifted this off her she strolled happily out onto the trolley to be judged. Another one who butted my hand and made a fuss and at the end of the day it was a very, very close call between this lovely lady and my eventual BIS winner, who she ran very, very close indeed. Was so pleased to see that she was the recipient of the fourth Judge's Special and also the eventual Overall Royal Canin Heat Winner as she certainly did not deserve to go away empty handed and if I had been allowed to award a Joint Best in Show I would have done.

Misc. Class 137 Cat or Kitten Resident in Warwickshire

1 TALBOYS' ORLANDO. My third placed cat from Class 121, I was very happy to be able to award him a First in this Class.

2 JARECKI'S APPOLLO . My 2 nd placed cat from Class 125

3 VALE'S ELLIE KIM. My 2 nd placed cat from Open Class 115, still sadly not a happy girl.

Misc. Class 141 Cat or Kitten with a Friend in the Pedigree Section

1 READ'S PEACHES. My 2 nd placed cat from Class 121.

Royal Canin Stakes Class 144 Tabby or Tabby & White Adult or Kitten

1 RUTTER'S BRACKEN. Unplaced in Class 121, this lady was a pale tortie tabby, more tabby than tortie and with classic tabby markings on her side, a white chin and a distinctive pale tip to her tail. She was very easy to handle but refused to purr for us. Another cat in very good condition and well presented.
