THE NFC CLUB SHOW REPORTS

DAPHNE BUTTERS

My thanks to Anne, Brian and the committee for a very well organised show, with a lovely friendly atmosphere. I stepped in to take over Sally Tokens' classes when she was unable to come, due to an injury. I hope that Sally is much better very soon and that the exhibitors were not too disappointed with the judge change. We had lots of beautiful cats and the quality of the breed continues to go from strength to strength.

AC TABBY & WHITE (14 WEEKS TO 6 MONTHS) KITTEN, MALE

1ST & BOB, GRANT'S NOYNAROCK RAHL, 67 31t, 15.09.08

Brown Tabby & White. Just over five months old and this young man already has a strong masculine head with a very good triangular shape and excellent overall length. Large ears, currently sitting about an ear's width apart and extremely well furnished with tips and tufts. Lovely alert expression, typical of the breed, with large green eyes, set obliquely. Straight nasal profile, though there is a tiny bump present. Chin quite firm and of good depth. Lovely long muscular body, wonderful heavy boning to limbs and paws with back legs visibly longer than the front ones. Tail reached the shoulders, but could be just a touch longer for perfection, it was well furnished with a bushy texture. Long baby coat, lots of woolly undercoat evident with guardhairs developing, typical softer kitten coat texture at the moment. Nicely marked classic tabby pattern with white to face, tummy and feet. Overall, I felt that he had the edge over the other three winners, as I felt that he was the best balanced for age, had a very promising coat developing and a great expression. Super to handle and beautifully presented. A kitten with lots of potential for the future.

AC TABBY & WHITE (14 WEEKS TO 6 MONTHS) KITTEN, FEMALE

1 ST TUCKER'S RAFFKIN WILLOW WAND, 67 31et, 16.09.08

Tortie-Tabby & White. Another promising kitten with rich vibrant colours to the coat. Well furnished ears, set high on the head and large in size. Triangular head shape, already showing equilateral sides and a very good straight line to the nose. Green eyes, oval shaped and set quite obliquely. Firm chin. Lovely body shape, size and length, well boned legs and large round paws. Tail was very well furnished indeed, just about reached the shoulders. Ruff evident, nicely grown knickerbockers, coat length developing down the back and sides of the body with woolly undercoat and glossy guardhairs present. I feel that as a adult she should have a very nice coat indeed. Rich mixture of red and brown tabby showing contrast with the white areas. Very well groomed indeed and very easy to handle. She later became Best in Show Kitten, congratulations to her owner and breeder, a very nice young lady.

2 ND RUBERY'S RAFFKIN PHOENIX FLAME, 67 31dt, 6.09.08

Red Tabby & White. Although the dates of birth are different for these two girls, they are actually litter sisters, according to their parentage so I suspect that there has been a slight clerical error. Unsurprisingly, this girl has a similar ‘look' to her sister, with a triangular head shape, though slightly rounded in the muzzle area, which I put down to her teething. Quite large ears, set in line with the outlines of the triangular head, they were well furnished and sitting about an ear's width apart. Oval eyes, set quite obliquely, green/gold in colour. Straight line to the nose. Chin quite firm. Long body, nice weight for size, overall this girl is slightly smaller than her sister, though well balanced. Quite large boning to legs and feet. Balanced tail, well furnished and bushy, balancing the body and reaching the shoulders. Ruff developing around the neck, full knickerbockers, coat length developing down the body with woolly undercoat already present. White flash up the nose, white to bib, chest, underbody and feet. Quite a warm shade of red tabby to the head, body and tail. Lovely to handle.

AC TABBY & WHITE (6 TO 9 MONTHS) KITTEN, MALE

This was a challenging class as all three lads had some very good points and it was difficult to split these three up to place them.

1 ST MILLWARD'S NORSKFAE SHOELESS JOE, 67 31at, M, 01.06.08

Blue Tabby & White. I loved this boy's expression, he really looks down his nose at you, just what I like to see in a NFC. Excellent triangular shape to the head with very good breadth to the top of skull. Very well placed ears, sitting in line with the rest of the triangle, ideally they could be a touch larger though they were very well furnished indeed. Beautiful nasal profile, with a long straight line, slightly rounded forehead. Large oval eyes, set in a really good oblique set, pale green in colour. He does lack chin strength and depth, otherwise he has a very nice head indeed. Deceptively heavy body, very well muscled and long, Substantial boning to limbs and large round paws. Well balanced and beautifully furnished tail, reaching the shoulders. Full coat, ruff around the neck, glossy and slightly coarser guardhairs covering the woolly undercoat. Blue classic tabby pattern with white to limbs, tummy and face. Wonderful to handle and groomed to perfection. Because he had a lovely body and head shape, I forgave his weak chin and overall, I felt that he was the best balanced of the three boys today.

2 ND HANDY'S NORSKMAGI TAVARIS, 67 31ts, MN, 24.06.08

Silver Tabby & White. I was impressed with this boy's body length and boning and I think that he should make an imposing adult. Triangular shape to the head, overall it was of very good length indeed. At the moment the top of head is still a little narrow, though I feel that once his adult breadth develops, he should be a really nice example of the breed. However, today, the head was not quite as well balanced as my winner's. Lovely large ears, still sitting a little close because his top of head breadth is yet to develop. Lovely oblique set to oval shaped green eyes. Excellent straight nasal profile. Chin could be a touch firmer and deeper for perfection. Really long body, good muscle tone and substance, very well boned legs and paws, he stands slightly higher on the back legs. Long tail, easily reaching the shoulders and very well furnished indeed. Well developed coat qualities for age with a ruff framing the face, full knickerbockers and slightly harsher guardhairs developing over the rump. I look forward to seeing how he develops over the coming months as he shows promise for the future.

3 RD SKULSKI'S SHANLIVLE MICKJAGGER, 67 31t, M, 27.05.08

Brown Tabby & White. Only just made it into the kitten classes by a few days and this young man has wonderful size and substance, a large and very solid boy exhibiting excellent boning and body shape. Triangular head shape, muzzle area just rounds off a little rather than truly tapering. Good large ears, set in line with the outlines on the triangle. Large eyes, nice oval shape, I would like to see them just a little more obliquely set. Although his profile gives the appearance of a slight curve, it is actually a good straight profile once the fur on the forehead is pushed back. Firm deep chin. Tail balanced the long body well and it was very well furnished indeed, with a bushy texture. He has lost his baby coat and the adult coat length is starting to develop, some ruff present around the neck, some woolly undercoat present, coarser texture to guardhairs still to come. This boy will look much more balanced once his proper adult coat develops, as he is currently at that ‘in-between' stage. He was lovely to handle and very well presented.

AC TABBY & WHITE (6 TO 9 MONTHS) FEMALE

1 ST PINCH'S CHALCEDON SILVER SPARKLE, 67 31ets, 29.07.08

Silver Tortie-Tabby & White. A very pretty young lady. Really large ears, set high and open, very well furnished and in line with the outlines of the triangular head. Very nice triangular shape to the head, very good overall length. Green eyes, good oval shape and set obliquely. Straight nasal profile, very tiny drop-off towards the tip. Firm deep chin. Long body with a muscular feel to it, quite large size. Nicely boned limbs, she stands high on the leg and has round paws. Balanced bushy tail, reaching the shoulders. This girl had a well developed coat for age, she had a full ruff and knickerbockers, woolly undercoat covered with slightly coarser glossy guardhairs, especially over the rump. Attractive coat colours, showing both black and various tones of red to the silver tabby. Nicely presented and good to handle.

2 ND LINDGREN'S JHARDUFAELILYTHEPINL, 67 31ets, 24.05.08

Registered as a silver tortie-tabby & white, though in the hall lighting, I felt that she is actually a tortie-tabby and white. The female had a lovely triangular shape to the head with very pleasing overall length and good breadth to the top of head. Large ears, nicely furnished. She was initially a little nervous and unsure, consequently she did tend to hold her ears down and flare them, though we did get them to come up by using the teaser, once she was back in her pen. Obliquely set green eyes. Nose shows a very slight change in direction. Chin quite firm, though it rounds off a little at the end. Lovely long solid body, excellent weight and muscularity. Well boned limbs and paws, back legs slightly longer than the front ones. Long bushy tail, very well furnished and reaching the shoulders. Coat length developing, she has a nice ruff and knickerbockers, coat texture is very promising with glossy guardhairs with a good slightly harsher feel towards the tail. Very well groomed.

3 RD MORRIS' ANGELITOSKIYOS FAIRY KYSS, 67 31gts, 22.07.08

Blue Silver Tortie-Tabby & White. Actually, this girl is a tortie smoke and white as she has patched of solid black rather than tabby markings covering a silver base colour. This female had lots of substance, excellent weight and a very muscular sold feel to her. Nicely furnished ears of good size and set in line with the triangular head. She does tend to puff out her whisker pads, though the boning does taper well underneath. Quite large eyes, oval in shape and set obliquely. Good long straight line to the nasal profile. Chin quite firm and of very good depth. Long heavy body, very well boned legs and paws. Long coat, full ruff framing the face, well developed knickerbockers. Guardhairs present down the spineline and over the rump, still to develop over the sides of the body. A little nervous today, though she was no problem to handle and had very impressive side and bone structure.

4 TH EMERY'S NORSKFAE SKY, 67 31at, 01.06.08

Blue Tabby & White. Another very weighty female of very good size and substance for age. Medium to large sized ears, nicely furnished and set well on the head. Head of good triangular shape, though overall I would like to see it just a little longer at this age. Green eyes, good large size and oval shaped, set quite obliquely. Nose has a good long straight line. Firm deep chin. Really long and very substantial body, she is a very well grown female. Large solid boning to legs and big round paws, she stands high on the leg. Very well furnished bushy tail, balancing that long body well and reaching the shoulders. Ruff starting to lengthen, woolly undercoat present, guardhairs developing though still typically on the softer side. White to face, tummy and legs, attractive blue mackerel tabby pattern to body, head and tail. Well presented.

5 TH SOUTHORN'S SHANVLIVLE DOLLYPARTON, 67 31ets, 07.08.08

Silver Tortie-Tabby & White. The baby of the class and this girl is at that difficult in-between stage. She has lost her baby coat and at the moment the coat is very short, so is lacking in undercoat. Really large ears which sit high on the head, currently a little too close together as the head breadth is yet to develop. The head has good overall length, now needing to develop breadth for balance as it is currently on the narrow side. Large green eyes, I felt that they were a little bold and round, though she was rather nervous during the morning judging. I was pleased to see her looking much more relaxed later in the day. Chin of good depth, could be a little firmer for perfection. Overall I felt that she was on the smaller side, though kittens do develop at different rates and the Norwegian Forest takes several years to attain full size so she has plenty of time to catch up. The body had good length and a muscular feel to it. Long tail, nicely furnished with some bushiness present. Nicely groomed and she had a very attractive mingled mixture of colours to her coat.

AC NON-SELF ADULT

1 ST GRANT'S NOYNAROCK ZACH, 67 31a, M, 21.06.07

Blue & White. A very impressive male all round, wonderful head and expression, long balanced boy and real presence. He later became Overall Best in Show, huge congratulations to his owner/breeder.

2 ND MORRIS' S*MAR' MICHAEL'S CHORITZO, 67 31fts, M, 03.09.04.

Cream Silver Tabby & White. A solid long bodied male with really large boning and a well developed winter coat.

3 RD SKULSKI'S SHANLIVLE MYMAGIC MOMENT, 67 31at, 20.05.08

Blue Tabby & White.

AOC NORWEGIAN FOREST ADULT

My previous class winner.

2 ND JEACOCK'S WEESAMS PANDORA, 64 31, F, 06.03.08

3 RD HANDY'S NORSKMAGI RAGNOR, 67 31s, M, 02.03.07

Black Smoke & White. Currently in full coat with a lovely ruff and knickerbockers. A little on the rangy side at the moment, which I put down to his age and hormonal status.

AC ARISTOCRAT ADULT

1 ST TIPPER'S PRINCESS DAYNA, 67 31et, F, 09.12.04

Tortie-Tabby & White. An extremely large and substantial girl with a strong yet feminine head of good triangular shape. Coat had a woolly undercoat with good slightly harsher topcoat. Attractive patches of red and brown tabby on a predominantly white base colour.

AC NORWEGIAN FOREST BREEDERS KITTEN

1 ST GRANT'S NOYNAROCK AUSUSTUS, 67 20, MN, 23.05.08

Brown Tabby. A super chap all round, strong balanced triangular head with an excellent straight profile line and obliquely set eyes. Really well grown with a long heavy body. Full coat, currently slightly softer texture as it is still a kitten coat. One to watch out for in the future. Later went Best Male Kitten in Show. Well done ho his owner/breeder.

2 ND PINCH'S CHALCEDON SILVER SPARKLE, 67 31ets, 29.07.08

AC NORWEGIAN FOREST KITTEN (NOT BRED BY EXHIBITOR)

1 ST FRASER-SMITH'S NORSKMAGI VENETIA, 67 36, F, 24.07.08

Black Smoke. Lovely large well grown female showing excellent body length and boning. Generally a very nice head shape all round though nasal profile shows a very slight change in direction. Coat exhibited some ruff, still typically softer over the back and sides of the body. I fell that she has a promising future.

2 ND MILLWARD'S NORSKFAE SHOELESS JOE, 67 31at, M, 01.06.08

Reported above in my Open Class.

Black. A large mature female who exhibits wonderful heavy boning, a long and well muscled body, strong triangular head and large, well placed ears. She has a good straight profile line to the nose and really firm deep chin. Today her coat was great, plenty of woolly textured undercoat covered with a slightly harsher glossy topcoat. Ended up being Best Neuter, a lovely example of the breed. Congratulations to her owners and breeder.

2 ND PORTER'S PR NOYNAROCK XANADU, 67 15, MN, 15.07.07

Black. This young man was very well grown and had a muscular feel to the long body and a balanced tail. Head of good triangular shape and he had a very pleasing expression with large ears, straight nasal profile and obliquely set green eyes. Chin quite firm. Coat of very nice length and texture, though overall I felt that the female had the edge all round today.

AC NON-SELF NEUTER

1 ST PORTER'S PR NOYNAROCK SYLVESTER, 67 31a, MN, 13.06.06

Blue & White. I see that this is the stablemate to the male in the previous class. Good large ears, in line with the triangular head. Green eyes, oval shaped and set obliquely. Straight line to the nasal profile. Chin could be a little firmer for perfection. Lovely long muscular body, solid boning to limbs, large round paws. Very well balanced tail. Coat of very good length and texture, full ruff and knickerbockers.
