Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 May 2026.

The Norwegian Forest Cat Club (“NFCC”, “we”, “us”) is an unincorporated association affiliated to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy. This policy explains what personal information we collect from members, visitors to our website and people who contact us, what we do with it, and what rights you have under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. For the purposes of this legislation, the NFCC is the data controller.

What information we collect

We collect personal information that you give us directly, including when you apply for or renew membership, register for a show, enter the points competition, ask to be added to the Breeders’ List or Kitten List, or contact us with an enquiry. This information may include your name, postal address, email address, telephone number, GCCF prefix and details of your cats. We do not knowingly collect special category (sensitive) personal data.

How we use your information

We use your information to administer Club membership and renewals; to organise shows, competitions and Club events; to maintain the Breeders’ and Kitten Lists; to send the Club newsletter and other Club communications; and to respond to your enquiries.

Legal basis for processing

We process your information on the basis of the membership relationship between you and the Club, your consent (which you may withdraw at any time), and our legitimate interests in running the Club and supporting the breed. Where we rely on consent — for example, to publish your contact details on the Breeders’ List — we will ask for it separately.

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for marketing. We may share limited information with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy where this is necessary for registration, showing or breed administration. Contact details on the Breeders’ List and Kitten List are published on this website with the member’s consent.

How long we keep it

We keep your information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out above and to meet the Club’s administrative and legal obligations. Membership records are normally kept while you remain a member and for a reasonable period afterwards, after which they are securely deleted or destroyed.

Your rights

Under data protection law you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, to ask us to erase it, to object to or restrict our processing of it, and to request a copy of it in a portable format. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

This website uses only the cookies necessary for it to function correctly. We do not use cookies for advertising. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be published on this page, with the date it was last updated shown above.
